OHMI - Music-Making for People with Physical Disabilities
Earlier this year, Ken and Michael met with Rachel Wolffsohn, the General Manager of the One Handed Musical Instrument Trust to donate to this incredibly important charity.
What does OHMI do?
The OHMI Trust exists to make music accessible to everyone. Many instruments are designed only for fully able-bodied players, which means people with limb differences or mobility challenges can miss out. OHMI works to change that.
Here’s how:
Adapted and custom instruments: From one-handed woodwind to specially modified brass and clever stands or supports, they create or adapt instruments so everyone can join in.
Support in schools: Their Music-Makers programme brings adapted instruments into classrooms, helping children with disabilities learn alongside their friends.
Research and innovation: They work with makers, engineers, and universities to push new ideas forward—from ergonomic designs to cutting-edge tech.
Raising awareness: OHMI encourages teachers, ensembles, and the wider music world to think more inclusively.
Why we wanted to help
At NMTC, we believe music is for everyone. OHMI’s work means more people get the chance to learn, play, and perform—something we care about deeply. We’re proud that our donation will help them continue creating opportunities for disabled musicians.
